The New York City Ballet is captured in peak form at Madrid's Teatro Real, performing works by legendary choreographers George Balanchine and Justin Peck.

1934's "Serenade," was the first full-length ballet Balanchine created in the United States. Still considered one of the company's defining pieces, it begins with a simple tendu and is set to Tchaikovsky's score. It was originally conceived as an observed ballet class.

Balanchine's later work, "Quadrille," combines classical ballet with American folk dance traditions, brought to life by the music of Vivaldi and Corelli. Justin Peck's electrifying "The Times Are Racing" from 2017 is performed by dancers in street clothes and sneakers, unleashing their energy to a pulsating electronic score by Dan Deacon, a two-time Grammy nominee. The choreography seamlessly blends various dance forms, including tap reminiscent of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
