The Making of Exhibition on Screen

A stylish and gripping true-crime series tells first-hand stories of Europe’s most daring art heists in which Turners, Rembrandts and Munch’s The Scream are stolen. Every year art worth more than £4 billion is stolen; it’s the most lucrative crime after arms and drugs. This Scandi Noir style detective trail takes us deep into the realms of art crime from the leading galleries in Europe into the underworlds of Serbia and across Scandinavia all the way to the glitz and glamour of the Hollywood hills. The three-part series hears from crack detectives pitted against criminal masterminds as they track down the paintings in a global game of cat and mouse. Told by the people who were there, in places where it happened the films weave a complex tale of art theft, extortion, drug trafficking and even murder.

In 2004 Munch’s The Scream is ripped from a gallery wall in Oslo.
