Singer Dee Dee Bridgewater pays tribute to her hero Ella Fitzgerald in this 1997 concert.
Dee Dee Bridgewater is a three-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter known for her outstanding and classic vocal quality. In the year after Fitzgerald’s death, Dee Dee Bridgewater set out to put together a tribute album, Dear Ella, to honor the life and career of the jazz icon. The album went on to win the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album and became one of the most highly regarded jazz tribute albums.
This 1997 concert, recorded live a the Berlin Jazz fest, accompanied the release of Dee Dee’s famous album. In it, she performs Ella Fitzgerald’s most famous songs, lending her own unique twist to the tunes. She is joined by the Ray Brown trio and the WDR Big Band for a stunning tribute concert.
