Teatro Real

Recognized as 2021’s "Best International Opera Theatre" by the International Opera Awards, Madrid’s Teatro Real has been a cornerstone of Spain’s most impressive opera and music events.

Built in 1818, the theater has hosted unique performances, including the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest. Together with its resident orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, Teatro Real has produced some of Europe’s finest opera. In recent years, it has gained acclaim for premiering contemporary operas like Philip Glass’s "The Perfect American" (2013), Charles Wuorinen’s "Brokeback Mountain" (2014), and Mauricio Sotelo’s "El Público" (2015).
