The Australian Chamber Orchestra brings Beethoven's moving Violin Sonata in A major to life with a touch of theatrical drama in this intimate concert film.
This sonata, known as The Kreutzer, has a fascinating backstory. While it's named after violinist Rudolphe Kreutzer, it was originally dedicated to George Bridgetower, a talented violinist of West Indian descent. Bridgetower performed with Beethoven at the sonata’s premiere, but they had a falling out, and his name was removed from the dedication.
Filmed at The Concourse in Chatswood, NSW, director Richard Tognetti, and the ACO restore Bridgetower's rightful place in history with this powerful performance. The concert begins with a poem by Rita Dove, narrated by actress Angela Nica Sullen, adding a heartfelt touch to the experience. This concert film is a fresh look at a classical masterpiece.
