French artistic director Yoann Bourgeois completes Mozart’s unfinished Requiem in a multi-layered performance featuring an orchestra, choir, and dancers. He explores the emptiness and suspension left behind by the composer’s incomplete masterpiece, using only the fragments Mozart wrote.
In collaboration with conductor Laurence Equilbey, Bourgeois amplifies the energy of these fragments, crafting a captivating triumph. Acrobats dance on walls, a choir sings on a revolving stage, and bodies fall gracefully, interacting with the score in a visually stunning display.
This reimagining of Requiem in D minor, K. 626, thinks outside the box, mixing practices and modes of physical interpretation, while Equilbey offers a fresh listening experience, a rediscovery of Mozart’s masterwork.
