For the first time ever, legendary choreographer John Neumeier allows cameras to document the creative evolution of one of his ballets. The resulting footage is remarkable.
Neumeier has been the artistic director and choreographer of the Hamburg Ballet since 1973. “Dona Nobis Pacem," set to Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Mass in B Minor," is a plea for world peace and serves as his swan song as he prepares to retire.
Filmed during the week of its world premiere, the ballet excels not only in technical brilliance but also in expressive intensity, depicting the harrowing impact of war on innocent civilians and shell-shocked soldiers alike.
