“A Place for Us” presents a fresh take on “West Side Story” with a gender role reversal and a contemporary New York City setting. Six women take to the streets, prowling and whirling as comrades and rivals to the expressive strains of Leonard Bernstein’s iconic prologue. They channel bursts of energy into exclamatory shapes, thrilling leaps, and bold confrontations as they cavort through the wide open cityscape and assert their claim to it.
