Wuthering Heights

Produced as part of the Vaudeville Theater’s Oscar Wilde season in 2018 this production was part of theater director, Dominic Dromgoole’s plan to stage all of Wilde’s plays in London.  First performed in 1892,  “Lady Windermere’s Fan” was the playwright's first big hit.

A comedy of manners exploring the social mores of Victorian high society, the story focuses on young Lady Windermere who suspects her husband of having an affair.  Enter Mrs Erlynne, a woman with a past who the chattering classes suspect of being a scarlet woman. Chaos and confusion follow as everyone tries to understand what is going on.  Set against the backdrop of Lady Windermere’s lavish birthday party the action subtly moves between comedy and melodrama.

Directed by actress, Kathy Burke (Kevin and Perry Go Large, Nil By Mouth, Flushed Away) the production bears all the hallmarks of Oscar Wilde’s signature wit and aphorisms including the famous line, “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”

Comedian and actress, Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous, Spice World, Death on The Nile) returns to the West End stage after more than twenty years to give a high-octane performance as the Duchess of Berwick.  Described by critics as a “scene-stealing performance” and “entirely convincing,” Saunders owns the stage here.  Other characters of note include Grace Molony as Lady Windermere making her West End debut and Samantha Spiro as Mrs Erlynne; the enigmatic lady with many past lives.

Set in nineteenth-century England, it benefits from being staged in its original setting providing us with comic insight into the machinations of Victorian high society.

Shakespeare's comic romance plays out amidst the brittle high spirits of a post-war house party, as youthful passions run riot, lovers are deceived and happiness is threatened – before peace ultimately wins out.

A Woman of No Importance

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s acclaimed production was filmed at The Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2013 before enjoying a sell-out run at The Barbican in London.  Shakespeare’s tense First History play explores themes of flawed leadership and vanity and looks at what happens when a ruler’s personal demons threaten to overshadow national stability.  

Directed by Sir Gregory Doran in his first production as Artistic Director, David Tennant, best known in Britain for playing the Tenth Doctor in the BBC’s longstanding science fiction series Dr. Who, gives an unpredictably intense and gripping performance as the conflicted King lending star quality to the monarch.

The ensemble cast which includes Shakespeare stalwarts Michael Pennington, Oliver Ford Davies OBE and Jayne Lapotaire received top reviews from audiences and critics alike.  It stands out as a timelessly political work.

Caius Martius Coriolanus is a fearless soldier but a reluctant leader. His ambitious mother attempts to carve him a path to political power, but he struggles to change his nature and do what is required to achieve greatness. In this new city state struggling to find its feet, where the gap between rich and poor is widening every day, Coriolanus must decide who he really is and where his allegiances lie.

This is one of Shakespeare's most overtly political plays, the modern dress setting for Angus Jackson's production emphasises the contemporary relevance of the themes explored in ‘Coriolanus’. This release completes the RSC’s tetralogy of Shakespeare’s Roman plays.

When the King of Navarre and his three courtiers forswear all pleasure - particularly of the female variety - in favor of a life of study, the arrival of the Princess of France and her ladies plays havoc with their intentions.

Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole’s highly entertaining production leaps off the stage with visual humor and sexual innuendo, giving the verbal gymnastics of Shakespeare’s play an equally rich reimagining on stage.
