Under Gardner's baton "not a single note or nuance [goes] unloved." ***** Bachtrack
Strauss & Brahms
London Philharmonic Orchestra
Music
Waterfalls, glaciers, a thunderous storm. Experience the thrilling power of nature as Edward Gardner leads the London Philharmonic Orchestra in a breathtaking performance of Strauss's "Alpine Symphony."
Few composers tell a story quite like Richard Strauss. One of his largest non-operatic works, Strauss's brilliant "Alpine Symphony" captures both the grandeur and peril of the Bavarian Alps in sweeping orchestral detail. This notoriously colossal piece, requiring an expanded orchestra of about 125 musicians, demands a steady hand at the podium. Gardner rises to the challenge, guiding the orchestra with precision and intensity, "pushing onwards towards the storm" ( Bachtrack).
What better way to set the stage for such a grand symphony than Grieg's beloved "Piano Concerto." Flawlessly performed by the award-winning Steven Osborne, its iconic opening flourish will have you on the edge of your seat, setting the tone for a brilliant concert to come.
