Christopher Ecclestone (Doctor Who) made his RSC debut in Shakespeare’s darkest thriller, Macbeth. After three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland, a lust for power leads to madness. Encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills the king, becomes the new king, and the death count keeps on rising as paranoia sets in. Playing the Scottish King with brooding aplomb, Christopher Ecclestone shines in this tale of murder, meddling and madness. Niamh Cusack also co-stars with her return to the Royal Shakespeare Company as Lady Macbeth.

Why Watch This

“Christopher Eccleston makes a powerful RSC debut as Macbeth, bringing a volatile, raw physical energy to the role and charting the character's rapid descent from heroic soldier to frantic, paranoid tyrant. Director Polly Findlay sets the play in a modern military headquarters where white collars, tactical gear, and cold fluorescent lighting replace the mossy battlefields of tradition.”
