The Merry Wives of Windsor
Theater146 min2018PG
William Shakespeare’s riotous comedy, The Merry Wives of Windsor, is a classic battle of the genders. Believing he can hustle his way into wealth through marriage, Sir John Falstaff grossly underestimates the wives of Windsor. A funny frolic presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Why Watch This
“Director Fiona Laird transports the action into a hyper-colorful, modern suburban landscape that echoes reality television culture, a clever update that frames the play's themes of gossip, middle-class wealth, and domestic plotting. David Troughton delivers a grotesquely funny performance as Sir John Falstaff, playing the knight with swaggering buffoonery as he attempts to seduce two wealthy wives who are always several steps ahead of him.”
